Archives for September 2015
For some reason, I struggled to write the accompanying post to photo. There’s a whole heap going on and I’m not sure where to start. The first being (obviously) my lips are BLUE. Yes, blue. The second being that it was achieved using eyeliner. Ok, now I’m ready to move on.
My autumn/winter lip wardrobe are usually filled with deep burgundies, plums and reds and I was pretty content with that until I read this post by Refinery 29 about using eyeliner as a lip pencil. It was like the door had been opened on a whole new world of colour and I couldn’t wait to try it out.
I’d started to see navy lips popping up over of Instagram and was desperate to try the look for myself and it turns out I had the perfect tool right under my nose the whole time. Using a freshly sharpened Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Sabbath, I set to work lining my lips as normal. Except it wasn’t normal, it was blue and I was freaking out. I then filled in the colour until it was opaque. The beauty of using eyeliner is that it’s pretty much smudgeproof after application and I didn’t find I needed to touch up anymore than with my usual lip products.
A blue lip may always conjure up images of THAT Friends episode but in reality, it’s the complete opposite. The navy shade is almost black and paired with dewy skin and minimal eye makeup; this has the potential to be a new favourite autumn look. It may not be for everyone, but if it’s something a touch more adventurous you’re after, this could be the trend for you.
Have you tried blue lips? Do you think you would?
Eyebrows. It turns out that they’re a pretty big deal. A seemingly unimportant facial feature that can actually make all the difference. I just wish I knew this as a 00’s teenager who was set on plucking my naturally thin brows into submission. Why did no one tell me? I think we can all thank a certain Miss Delevingne for reigniting our love for the bolder, the better brows. So for those who got a little too tweezer happy back in the day, this one is for you guys!
Let’s just ignore that fact that I am in need of a good threading session to get rid of the pesky little strays and focus on the main issues. Lefty here isn’t too bad these days. The shape is there but it’s in crucial need of filling in, especially in the tail end. My right brow though, where do I even start? That gap though.
Though this picture doesn’t show the wider image, you can see how much difference a little brow attention makes. I first lightly trace a guide shape for both brows using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Brown which has the perfect ashy tone. It’s then a case of using light strokes to mimic brow hair, making sure to use the spoolie end to blend out the colour and stop things from getting too sharpie-esque. With the gap in my right brow, it’s kind of hard to make it look natural so I just try to fill in the colour as carefully as possible. Once I’m happy with the shape, I like to set and add a final touch of plumpness by using Benefit’s Gimme Brow in Medium/Dark.
What are your favourite brow products?
