If there’s ever a time of year that inspires me to get baking, it’s Christmas. I decided this year to take on the classic Gingerbread man. Having made this recipe a few times now, I’m obsessed. The gingerbread itself is full of flavour but not overpowering anyway. The recipe comes from my favourite bakery in London’s recipe book, the Hummingbird Bakery. If you don’t have the book, the recipe is also available here.
As an amateur baker, these weren’t too taxing to make at all. The most valuable piece of advice I could share is to make the dough in advance as the recipe suggests as it stops it being quite to sticky to work with and your gingerbread men will be a much neater shape.
I’m not all that talented at decorating cookies so I went for the simple approach with a little bit of icing and I really like how they came out. In a few more practices, I think they’ll look perfect.
