I’ve never been one to opt for a matte base so when I heard about the latest NARS launch, I can’t say I was too bothered. I have flashbacks to my early teenage years when all matte foundations were thick and drying (I’m looking at you, Dream Matte Mousse).
So I carried on playing it cool with this one until I saw Kate raving about the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint on instagram. Shortly after, I found myself picking it up in Space NK and it was mine. I bought the shade Finland (Light 1) and it’s a pretty spot on colour match – slightly darker than my fair skin but not to orange or pink toned.
Firstly, this base taught me to forget everything I thought I knew about matte formulas. It’s extremely light and airy which makes it probably one of the easiest things to apply. I take a small amount on a damp beauty blender and you guessed it- blend, blend, blend. The finish is extremely natural – velvety but with a slight glow about it. It’s just so pretty.
Once blended into the skin, my pores look practically non-existent and almost like they’ve been airbrushed. Yes, it can be a little bit dry if I’m having an off skin day, especially around my nose. To counteract any dryness, I use a hydrating primer like Too Faced Hangover Primer or a setting spray Smashbox Primer Water and I’m good to go.
It’s safe to say, so far so good with this one and I’m looking forward to see how it wears in warmer weather too. I can definitely see this being my base of choice when I’m travelling this month.
Have you tried NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint yet? Do you want to?
