If you’re anything like me (not a natural athlete in the slightest), a lack of motivation can be a killer when it comes to trying to keep up a fitness routine. Why head to the gym on a dark and cold evening when you could wrap up in bed and binge-watch Master of None? Motivation to keep working out can come in all shapes and forms but I wanted to share the things that really keep me motivated and maybe they might help you too.
The biggest workout killer is not having a clear plan of what you want to do and achieve each session. As someone who isn’t particularly in the know when it comes to what exercises work for what muscle groups etc, one of my favourite places to head is YouTube. Any type of workout is available at the click of a button. Carly Rowena is a personal trainer and absolute babe and I find myself using her videos a lot when I’m feeling uninspired. Her gym routine videos are the bomb and she’s just so damn lovely. If weights aren’t your thing, there are HIIT routines, yoga classes, pilates out there. Just find what suits you.
Women’s Health magazine is a great read for those wanting to explore the world of fitness. There are recipes, the latest workout trends, celebrity interviews, training routines all neatly packaged up. Also who isn’t obsessed with this month’s Natalie Dormer cover? If that doesn’t inspire you to kick ass, what will?
Classes are a fairly recent addition to my fitness regime. I find cardio so boring but I wanted to find a way to include it in my routine so I’ve recently tried spinning. It took a few times to get my head around but I’m finally finding a cardio-based workout that’s good for me. I’m also looking to start boxing in December as it’s something I’ve always wanted to try. There are so many classes out there so try as many as you can and once you find one you love, it won’t even feel like a chore.
What motivates you to get active?
